The Marshallville Volunteer Fire Department was established in Sept. 23, 1876. It was known at that time as Marshallville Fire Co. No. One. There were about 40 names listed as members. On Sept 5, 1910 the town purchased a new fire engine with a gasoline engine on it to run the high pressure water pump. This engine was purchased from The Howe Engine Co for $845. The old hand pumper was traded in, but the hose cart was kept. Cisterns around the village were used to obtain water to fight fires. Firefighters at that time were alerted to a fire by someone ringing a bell at the town hall. Around 1928 the village brought its first motorized fire truck. Over the years, the name has changed to Marshallville Vol. Fire Dept.
